An improvised explosive device (IED) planted by ISWAP in Sikarkur village, Chibok Local Government Area, Borno State, killed several people, including a mother and her child, and injured many others when a civilian vehicle ran over it.
Surrounding buildings and the vehicle were severely damaged and burnt in the explosion. The IED, intended for military patrols, highlights the continued threat of Boko Haram and ISWAP in Northern Nigeria.
This incident follows a recent ISWAP attack on two communities in Chibok, where militants killed civilians and destroyed homes and a church. Since Abubakar Shekau’s death, ISWAP has expanded its influence, killing thousands and displacing millions in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.
