Newly appointed Deputy Director-General of DSS, Folashade Arinola Adekaiyaoja, fdc, fsi
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has appointed Folashade Arinola Adekaiyaoja, an indigene of Kogi State, as the Deputy Director-General of the Department of State Security Services (DSS). This historic appointment marks her as the first female to assume this prestigious office.
The DSS operates with a structured hierarchy that includes three Deputy Directors-General, and Adekaiyaoja now fills one of these critical roles, further solidifying her place in Nigeria’s security history.
Adekaiyaoja is a distinguished Fellow of the Defence College (fdc), an accolade awarded to graduates of the National Defence College (NDC) upon successfully completing its rigorous study program. She is also a Fellow of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), the educational arm of the DSS, where participants earn the esteemed fsi designation after completing an intensive ten-month Artificial Intelligence training.
Her appointment reportedly came at the recommendation of the DSS Director-General, Mr Oluwatosin Ajayi, and received endorsement from the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
The name Adekaiyaoja carries profound meaning, translating to “a warrior whose presence inspires fear and awe.” This powerful name reflects the strength and leadership qualities Adekaiyaoja brings to her new role.
This appointment highlights the administration’s commitment to encouraging gender inclusivity in top leadership positions, especially within the nation’s critical security apparatus.
