American rapper Meek Mill has expressed interest in purchasing TikTok amid discussions of a potential ban on the platform in the United States.
This development follows President Joe Biden’s enactment of a law in April 2024 requiring TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, to either sell the platform or shut it down by January 19, 2025.
In December, TikTok filed an appeal with the US Supreme Court after its CEO, Shou Zi Chew, met with President-elect Donald Trump. Trump, during a press conference, acknowledged having a “soft spot” for TikTok, indicating his administration might reassess the platform’s future and the possibility of a ban.
As ByteDance awaits the Supreme Court’s ruling on the matter, Meek Mill has stepped forward with an offer. “Sell TikTok to me,” the rapper posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
He added, “If they cut off TikTok, we’re going to X and Fanbase.”
Meek Mill’s proposal underscores the growing interest in preserving the platform’s influence within the US market, even as its future hangs in the balance.
