Tartor Ayihe, a middle-aged man from Ayihe village in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State, has reportedly died by suicide after allegedly selling a plot of land to three different buyers.
Sources indicate that Ayihe consumed a pesticide, believed to be Sniper, after being confronted by community leaders and the buyers about the fraudulent transactions.
A community member revealed that the issue was brought to the Kindred Head, where Ayihe was questioned. During the meeting, he excused himself, claiming he needed to retrieve something from his home, but instead consumed the chemical after turning off his phone.
He was later found unresponsive at his residence, surrounded by empty pesticide bottles. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is ongoing.
