A middle-aged man identified as Nwana has allegedly set his wife, Chioma Nwana, on fire following a heated argument over suspected infidelity at Eziezekwe village, Abagana, in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State.
The tragic event unfolded on Tuesday evening when Nwana confronted his wife after accusing her of having an affair. During the confrontation, he reportedly doused her in petrol and set her ablaze. Chioma, who suffered severe burns, was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday morning.
Community sources revealed that the confrontation began after Chioma returned home from an alleged outing with another man. A resident stated, “Her husband accused her of infidelity during an argument, poured petrol on her, and set her on fire. She was taken to the hospital but, sadly, did not survive.”
The couple, parents of six children, had been living together in the village before the incident.
After committing the act, the suspect turned himself in at the Abagana Divisional Police Station, confessing to the crime.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect is in custody. He added, “The victim passed away this morning. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, has directed the case be transferred to the Homicide Unit for a detailed investigation.”
