In a bid to ensure environmental sustainability and protect public health, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Friday sealed multiple facilities for breaching environmental regulations outlined in the Environmental Management and Protection Law (EMPL) of 2017.
The announcement was made by the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via http://X.com on Friday.
Among the facilities affected were a public toilet situated under the bridge at Leventis Bus Stop, Apongbon, and Block N of Ebute-Ero Market.
The public toilet was sealed for discharging untreated sewage into the lagoon and constructing an unauthorized facility. Meanwhile, Ebute-Ero Market was penalized for channeling sewage pipes into public drains and building a septic tank on a walkway.
In a statement, the LSWMO said:
“In line with the Environmental Management and Protection Law (EMPL) 2017, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office on Friday, January 24, 2025, sealed a public toilet at Underbridge by Leventis Bus Stop, Apongbon, for discharging untreated sewage into the lagoon and constructing an illegal facility. Ebute-Ero Market Block N was also sealed for channeling sewage into public drains and building a septic tank on a walkway.
“Additionally, the agency resealed Optimum Exposure Media Control Room for discharging untreated sewage into the lagoon and other environmental infractions.
“The Lagos State Government reiterates its zero-tolerance policy for environmental pollution and degradation. Citizens are urged to adopt proper hygiene practices to enhance public health and ensure environmental sustainability.”
