The Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Professor Shaykh Luqman Jimoh, has expressed strong disapproval of the inappropriate behavior displayed by some students in viral social media videos.
In the videos, students were seen wearing the university’s matriculation gowns in ways that the Vice-Chancellor described as unbecoming of individuals in a higher institution of learning.
In a letter addressed to the university’s students on Monday, Professor Jimoh emphasized that the students involved had been identified and would face disciplinary action to serve as a deterrent to others.
“The students in the videos will be made to face disciplinary measures to caution them and others against trivializing what should be treated with honor,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
He reiterated the institution’s commitment to maintaining its standards of excellence and vowed to protect the university’s reputation from any attempts to undermine it.
Upholding KWASU’s Integrity
Describing the actions as disrespectful to the hard work of lecturers and the institution’s founding principles, Professor Jimoh said, “These videos are a disservice to all the effort your lecturers have put into grooming you to be worthy individuals who will command respect anywhere in the world.
“It ridicules the integrity of our processes, which are grounded in excellence. KWASU is yours! Like thousands of our graduates, you will hold our certificate, carry it proudly across the world, and achieve great things. The integrity of Kwara State University is ours to safeguard.”
He urged students to take pride in the university’s reputation and to resist any actions that might cast KWASU in a negative light.
Call for Unity and Excellence
Professor Jimoh highlighted the accomplishments of KWASU alumni worldwide, expressing confidence that current students would continue the tradition of excellence.
“There are thousands of KWASU graduates achieving remarkable feats globally. Soon, you too will join them, holding a KWASU degree with pride. I know you will uphold the standards and values of this great institution,” he said.
He concluded by urging students to remain law-abiding and focus on self-improvement, assuring them of the university’s dedication to their success.
“KWASU belongs to all of us. Let us protect her name and image. On our part, we will do everything possible to ensure you become the best version of yourself,” the Vice-Chancellor pledged.
