An Area Court in Jos has sentenced Weng Pam, a student, to six months in prison for stealing household items valued at ₦150,000.
Judge Shawomi Bokkos handed down the sentence on Tuesday after the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge. However, the judge offered an alternative: Pam could pay a ₦30,000 fine and an additional ₦50,000 as compensation. Failure to pay would result in an additional six months of imprisonment.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Ijuptil Daniel informed the court that the case was reported on December 14, 2024, by Mr. Jerry Pam at the B Division Police Station in Bukuru. The complainant alleged that the convict broke into his home and stole items including a home theatre and clothing.
Inspector Daniel added that during the investigation, the accused confessed to the crime, which violates the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
