IBM is set to make a leap in quantum computing with the release of its largest quantum computer to date in 2025.
By linking multiple quantum chips in parallel, the company plans to create a system with an unprecedented number of quantum bits, or qubits.
This ambitious project aims to break existing records and eventually surpass the size of the largest quantum computer by more than threefold.
The journey began just six years ago when IBM introduced its first commercial quantum computer, a 20-qubit system available to researchers via the internet. Today, its most advanced chip, Condor, boasts 1121 qubits. However, the company plant to more than triple the size of the largest existing quantum computer by linking them.
The planned 2025 system will take quantum computing to the next level, further expanding the possibilities for complex calculations and advancing fields like cryptography, artificial intelligence, and material science.
