Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, to prioritize tackling cultism and kidnapping in the state. Fubara made this call during a courtesy visit by Adepoju and senior officers of the State Police Command at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The governor also advised Adepoju to avoid attending late-night meetings that could escalate political tensions in the state. He encouraged the new CP to use his deep understanding of the local landscape to effectively combat crime.
This directive follows a tragic incident in Eleme Local Government Area, where a Dutch expatriate working with the state government, along with his driver and security aides, drowned after their vehicle plunged into a river while reportedly trying to escape a kidnapping attempt.
In response, Adepoju, who took office as the 47th Commissioner of Police on January 4, assured the governor that he would strengthen intelligence gathering and improve crime response efforts. He also emphasized his commitment to an impartial approach in fulfilling his duties.
