The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the National Commission For Persons Living with Disabilities, Mr Ayuba Gufwan has described Governor Alex Otti as the champion of disabilities community in Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues when they paid a working visit to Governor Alex Otti in the state, Mr Ayuba Gufwan commended the Governor for his friendly disposition to persons living with disabilities leading to the establishment of a commission for persons with disabilities in the state.
He said that the group is in the state to appeal to the Governor to provide them with facility that would be used as Southeast Zonal office of the National Commission for Persons Living with Disabilities, adding that Abia was chosen because of its hospitable nature.
Responding, the Governor, Dr Alex Otti said his government does not discriminate against persons living with disabilities or any other group including people of different religious inclinations or tribe.
Governor Otti noted that the accomodating spirit of his administration led to the appointment of an Edo man, Mr Benson Ojeikere as Head of Service, adding that his administration is focused and would continue to anchor its activities on meritocracy without discrimination.
The Governor, who encouraged persons living with disabilities to always aspire higher, announced to the commission that an approval has been made for them to house their Southeast headquarters in the state.
The state Chief Executive said that his Special Assistant on Persons Living with Disabilities, would liaise with the Director General of Umuahia Capital Development Authority and Commissioner for Lands and Housing to identify a befitting office for the Southeast Zone of the council.
