Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has extended his condolences to the family of the late Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, popularly known as “Ijaya,” who served as a member of the House of Representatives for the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency.
Onanuga, who was the Deputy Chief Whip in the House, passed away on Wednesday after a brief illness.
In a condolence message released late Wednesday, Governor Abiodun described the lawmaker’s death as shocking and devastating, calling it a monumental loss to Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
He praised Onanuga as a fearless leader, dedicated party member, and effective mobilizer who tirelessly worked to uplift women and improve the lives of her constituents.
The governor prayed for the repose of her soul and comfort for her family during this difficult time.
“I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the leadership of the House of Representatives, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, and the entire members of the lower chamber over the passing of Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga,” Abiodun said.
“Her death came as a rude shock to us all in Ogun State. It is both sudden and deeply saddening; we have lost an extraordinary amazon.
“Her courage, loyalty, and contributions to humanity were exceptional. While we will greatly miss her, we find solace in the remarkable legacy she leaves behind.
“May God Almighty grant her eternal rest and provide her family with the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
