-Three French citizens are currently detained in Iran. Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris have been jailed since May 2022 on espionage charges, while another French citizen, Olivier, has been imprisoned since October 2022.
-Unacceptable Detention Conditions: Barrot condemned the detention of the French nationals, describing their conditions as “unworthy” and stressing that they have been “unjustly detained” for years.
-Despite efforts from the French government, the situation of the detainees has worsened, according to Barrot, since the election of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian.
-Barrot emphasized that France’s bilateral relations with Iran and future sanctions are at stake, urging Iranian authorities to release the hostages immediately.
