The Chairman of Ekiti East Local Community Development Area (LCDA), Hon . Chief Anthonia Alaba Omonusi , has announced plans to inaugurate a Tourism Committee in her LCDA as part of efforts to position tourism as a driver of local development.
This was revealed during her courtesy visit to the Director General of the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development, Barrister Wale Ojo-Lanre, at the Bureau’s office in Ado Ekiti.
Mrs. Omonusi emphasized that tourism thrives at the grassroots level and that its development must begin from the local government areas, where the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the people are rooted. She highlighted her administration’s proactive steps in planting the seeds of creative tourism in Ekiti East LCDA, particularly through initiatives like the Adire Ekiti Hub, which offers tourists an immersive experience in the creation of traditional attire and local crafts.
While expressing her commitment to supporting the Bureau’s efforts, Mrs. Omonusi commended Ekiti State Governor, His Excellency Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for his visionary leadership in revitalizing the tourism sector through the establishment of the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development. She also revealed her LCDA’s plan to invest significantly in tourism development, ensuring that Ekiti East becomes a key player in the state’s tourism advancement.
The DG of the Bureau, Barrister Wale Ojo Lanre , along with the Executive Secretary, Barrister Adegboyega Adeoye Morakinyo, and Special Assistant on Tourism, Peculiar Ekiran, warmly received Mrs. Omonusi during her visit. Barrister Ojo-Lanre lauded her as a diligent, responsible, and forward-thinking leader who understands the critical role of tourism in economic growth and community development.
He informed Mrs. Omonusi that the National Tourism Policy mandates the establishment of Tourism Committees in all local governments and LCDAs across Nigeria, congratulating her for being the first LCDA leader in Ekiti State to prioritize and recognize the importance of this directive.
“Mrs. Omonusi’s proactive leadership in embracing tourism development is commendable and sets an example for other local government administrators. Her commitment aligns perfectly with the state government’s vision to make Ekiti a vibrant tourism destination,” Barrister Ojo-Lanre said.
The inauguration of the Tourism Committee in Ekiti East LCDA marks a significant step in leveraging tourism as a tool for economic empowerment, cultural preservation, and community development.
