A Federal High Court in Lagos has issued a warrant for the arrest of Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, over allegations of diverting $345,000.
Justice Alexander Owoeye granted the warrant on Thursday following a motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
During the court session, EFCC counsel Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari cited sections of the 1999 Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, to support the request for Onyedikachukwu’s arrest. She explained that the warrant was necessary to compel his appearance in court to face the alleged criminal charges.
The EFCC stated that Mercy Chinwo had filed a petition alleging that her manager received royalties from her digital platforms and events without proper disclosure. It was further claimed that Onyedikachukwu diverted $345,000 without remitting her share.
An affidavit submitted by EFCC investigator Michael Idoko detailed unsuccessful attempts to apprehend the manager, prompting the court application.
The court granted the EFCC’s request and set January 24 for the manager’s arraignment. If Onyedikachukwu is not apprehended by then, the commission may issue a public summons to declare him wanted.
