President Joe Biden has announced a federal aid of $770 in one-time payments to victims of the devastating California wildfires, which have affected Los Angeles County. The fires, which have claimed 29 lives, continue to be a major concern. In a meeting on Monday, Biden confirmed that the federal government will also cover 100% of the disaster response costs for the next six months.
Biden emphasized that aid is being provided immediately, not waiting for the fires to end. Nearly 6,000 survivors have already registered, with $5.1 million in immediate assistance distributed. Victims can apply for assistance via DisasterAssistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362.
In addition, FEMA reported that 33,000 residents have registered for disaster aid. Biden acknowledged that the total damage from the fires is estimated between $250 billion and $275 billion, surpassing previous disasters in terms of economic loss. He called for Congress to step in with additional funding to support recovery efforts.
