A 33-year-old man, Obinna Nwigwe, has been arrēsted by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for allēgedly shõoting his friend, Andrew Philemon, during a hëated argument at a guest house in Abuja.
The incident occurred after a distress call about gūnfire was made to the police, who found Philemon critically injûred from a gûnshot wound .
According to SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Nwigwe claimed the shĹŤoting was in self-defense after the argument escalated.
However, a search of his residence revealed a cache of dångerous wëapons, including:
– FiÉŤearms: five Dane gĹ«ns, one English-made single-barrelled gĹ«n, and an AK-47 magazine with 29 rounds of live ammunition
– Ammunition: four live cartridges and 17 spent cartridges
– Other wĂ«apons: a bow with arrĹŤws, various knĂŻves, a swõrd-stick, a toy gĹ«n, a taser, and a bulletproof jacket
– Police uniforms and equipment: multiple sets of police uniforms and boots
Philemon is currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Abuja, while Nwigwe remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigations. The FCT police command has reiterated its commitment to tãckling viõlent crime and ensuring the safety of residents, emphasizing the need for vigilance and the dangers of ïllegal firearm possession .
