A devastating road accident in the Kwana Maciji area of Pankshin Local Government Area, Plateau State, has claimed 19 lives and left 11 others injured.
The victims were returning to Kano State after attending a wedding in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
John Dasar, Chairman of the Pankshin Local Government Area Emergency Management Committee, confirmed the incident, stating that the tragedy occurred on Saturday when the vehicle carrying the travelers crashed and subsequently caught fire.
“The accident happened on Saturday. The travelers were from Kano, returning from a wedding ceremony in Barkin Ladi. They chose the shorter Gindiri-Bauchi route, but their vehicle was involved in an accident. Tragically, while efforts were being made to assist them, the vehicle caught fire,” Dasar explained.
He revealed that 19 passengers were trapped in the blaze and were burned beyond recognition.
“Although the driver and a few others survived, it is deeply tragic that 19 lives were lost in such a horrific way,” he said.
The injured passengers were rushed to Pankshin General Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
