Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has declared a two-week holiday for civil servants in the state in celebration of the Christmas and New Year festivities.
The Governor made the announcement on Tuesday in Makurdi, stating that the holiday will begin on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, and end on Monday, January 6, 2025.
However, he emphasized that essential services must not be disrupted during the holiday period.
In his message to the people of Benue, Governor Alia said, “Christmas is a time of reflection and thanksgiving, a season when we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and Savior whose life and teachings inspire us to uphold the values of love, unity, and service to humanity.”
He commended the Benue workforce for their dedication to the implementation of state programs and projects, noting that their commitment has been pivotal in driving the state’s development agenda.
“I recognize the tremendous efforts of the Benue workforce in the implementation of our programmes and projects for the progress and prosperity of our state. Your dedication and commitment to duty have been instrumental in driving our collective agenda for development,” he said.
Governor Alia further stated that the extended holiday would allow workers to enjoy the yuletide season with their families and loved ones. He added that the decision reflects the state’s commitment to supporting the well-being of its workforce.
While wishing everyone a merry Christmas, the Governor also stressed the importance of maintaining essential services during the holiday. He directed agencies providing such services, including financial institutions, security agencies, hospitals, water boards, fire services, telecommunications companies, and energy providers, to make necessary arrangements to ensure continuous operations.
“As we celebrate the blessings of Christmas in anticipation of a prosperous 2025, I encourage everyone to imbibe the spirit of unity, love, and peace. Let us remain steadfast in our collective efforts to build a better and greater Benue State,” Governor Alia concluded.
On behalf of the Benue State Government, he wished the people of Benue, tourists, and visitors a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, praying for joy, renewed hope, and divine blessings in the season.
