As today is the world’s Human Rights day, a security czar and the former Field Commander Amotekun in Osun State, Brig. Gen. Bashir Biodun Adewinbi (Rtd.) has called for more legislation and enforcement of the existing laws to curb the rising cases of human rights abuses in Nigeria.
The retired military officer made this known today through a release made available to newsmen in Osogbo through his aide, Comrade Ismail Alade (IWA HUSTLER).
He noted that, if Nigeria is to be truly seen as a democracy, it must adhere strictly to rule of law and respect for human dignity especially by all those directly saddled with the responsibility of maintaining law and order in the land.
“That Nigeria still ranks 112th in the world in 2024, ranking shows that a lot still needed to be done in order to have a country free of human rights abuses where, equity, justice and peace shall reign. We must all give everyone their dues and know that we are all human first”, said Adewinbi.
He urged security personnel and those dealing with people on a daily basis to always ensure that they are discharging their duties without resulting in any form of human rights abuses.
