U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Lebanese American businessman Massad Boulos would serve as a senior adviser on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs. Boulos, who is the father-in-law of Trump’s daughter Tiffany, was involved in outreach efforts to Arab American and Muslim communities during the campaign.
His appointment marks the second time in recent days that Trump has selected the father-in-law of one of his children for an official role in his administration, having already named Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as the U.S. ambassador to France.
Boulos has strong connections in both Lebanon and the U.S. and played a key role in Trump’s outreach to Arab American and Muslim voters, particularly in Michigan, which was pivotal in Trump’s 2020 victory.
With a background in Lebanese politics and significant ties to various factions, including Hezbollah, Boulos is well-positioned to influence U.S. Middle East policy.
His new role could also elevate his political influence, particularly after his brief attempt to run for Lebanon’s parliament in 2018.
Boulos’s long-standing efforts to build relationships with both pro- and anti-Hezbollah groups in Lebanon, alongside his influence in the U.S., suggests he may play a significant role in shaping future U.S. foreign policy in the region.
