Some passengers who boarded a bus on their way to celebrate Christmas are feared dead following a horrible accident that took place at Ohafia, Abia State on Sunday.
The accident happened at the dilapidated Mmuri Bridge section of the Bende-Abam-Ohafia road.
The truck which was loaded with construction materials was trying to avoid a failed portion of the deadly bridge when it fell on a 10-seater bus conveying passengers.
The impact of the accident trapped the passengers under the heavy truck even as Ohafia youths and other sympathisers were seen trying to apply human efforts in rescuing the trapped passengers.
However, the heaviness of the truck and its content frustrated the rescue efforts of the youths.
A few of the passengers were overheard groaning in low voices for help from under the bus.
Two of the trapped victims were children who were traveling with their mother for Christmas.
An indigene of Ohafia, Ukpai Onuoha, lamented that the bridge has been in terrible condition for many years, causing accidents and other inconveniences.
He accused Abia State politicians of failed promises to fix the bridge.
