The Senate Deputy Minority Leader and the Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District in Osun State, Sen. Akogun Lere Oyewumi, has extended his support to the National Association of Osun State Students, National Headquarters (NAOSS NHQ), in their ongoing skill acquisition program for students across Osun West Senatorial District.
The program is designed to empower students across the ten local government areas under the Osun West senatorial district. The acquisition training started on November 30, 2024, at the Ede/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency and is set to conclude on December 14, 2024, with the final phase taking place at the Iwo/Ayedire/Olaoluwa Federal Constituency.
On December 7, 2024, following the completion of the Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency training session, the organizing team, led by NAOSS NHQ Vice President, Comr. Idrees Mubarak AlMogaji aka Mubby Nation, visited Sen. Akogun Lere Oyewumi at his residence. During the visit, the team presented products from the training sessions which had been self-funded up to that point.
Acknowledging their dedication and effort, Sen. Akogun pledged a financial contribution of ₦500,000 to support the initiative—a promise that has reportedly been fulfilled.
Comr. Idrees Mubarak AlMogaji expressed profound gratitude for the senator’s intervention, stating that without it, the final phase of the program might have been postponed due to financial constraints.
In his statement, the Vice President of NAOSS, Comr. Mubarak highlighted the significance of the senator’s support:
> “We cannot thank Sen. Akogun Lere Oyewumi enough. Our visit to him on Saturday was not officially scheduled, yet he welcomed us warmly. His promise to support this initiative with ₦500,000 came at a critical time.
> We began this program on November 30 and it has been entirely self-funded, without any assistance from the state or federal representatives we officially reached out to. With this support received from Sen. Lere Akogun, we will be able to balance the materials needed for the last phase of the program and proceed as planned in our proposal”
Comr. Mubarak, who is also the Chairman of Osun West Indigenous Students, acknowledged the contributions of the NAOSS NHQ Secretary, Com Quadril Olayiwola VanAbility and the various Indigenous Presidents in the senatorial district, whose efforts helped sustain the program despite the lack of external support until the intervention of the senator representing the district, Sen. Akogun Lere Oyewumi.
He further used the opportunity to call on state and federal representatives across the ten local government areas in Osun West to emulate Sen. Akogun’s exemplary gesture by investing in education and supporting student-driven initiatives.
The skills acquisition program, which provides hands-on training in Liquid Soap Production, Izal Production, and Air Freshener Production, has been widely commended for its practical approach to youth empowerment. With the senator’s support, the final phase in Iwo/Ayedire/Olaoluwa Federal Constituency is now set to proceed as planned on December 14, 2024.
Sen. Lere Akogun’s timely intervention proves the importance of community leaders actively supporting educational and developmental initiatives that directly impact the lives of their constituents.
