I wish to write to Kwara northerners particularly those who haven’t sold their birthright to a politician who loves to see the region in a perpetual underdeveloped state. I want to direct this piece to those Kwara northerners who have been actively and fearlessly saying it is the turn of their region in 2027 in the face of the coordinated attacks by identified online urchins of a politician whose greed and highhandedness are making his loyalists leave his camp in drove.
Your call to all the political parties in the state to cede their governorship tickets to your region for equity, fairness and justice is not out of place. Since the return of democracy in 1999, it is only Kwara North that has not led the state from its most revered office at Ahmadu Bello Way, Ilorin, despite contributing hugely to the political and economic development of the state like Kwara South and Kwara Central that have produced one and three governors respectively.
Don’t allow Mr Bukola Saraki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the known enemies of your region and their rottweilers, to bully you into silence. They’re pained that you rejected the Greek gift they offered your region in 2023. If Saraki truly meant well for Kwara North, he would have considered giving the 2019 governorship ticket to one of your sons or daughters. Rather than toe the pay path of justice, equity and fairness, he gave it to one unpopular Razak Atunwa whose little political relevance died with the election.
Saraki and his hungry minions’ excuse of not going to cede the PDP ticket to your region in 2027 because you failed to deliver Alhaji Shuaib Yaman in 2023 is nothing but total nonsense. What Saraki intends to achieve with this unguided narrative, which he ordered his minions to share across social media platforms, is to present Kwara Northerners as ungrateful and set other Kwarans against you people. Isn’t it obvious how his urchins are heating the polity in recent times?
Interestingly, not many of these people insulting Kwara northerners for rejecting Saraki’s 2023 Greek gift voted for Yaman. Their excuse was that he was Gbemisola Sarakiβs candidate, the same woman who claimed she supported the ruling party to free Kwarans from the decade-long political slavery of her fatherβs dynasty. Similarly, Saraki couldn’t deliver his local government for Yaman let alone his senatorial district. What’s now the fault of the Kwara Northerners if I may ask?
Kwara northerners, you must not be distracted by Saraki and his minions’ divisive politics, especially now that you are aware of what they intend to achieve with the rhetoric they are pushing out. Leave them to continue barking like strayed dogs. Remain focused and continue your call for the zoning of the 2027 governorship ticket to your region, which is rooted in fairness, equity and justice. Kwarans are fair and just people; they will definitely support your cause and ensure a Kwara northerner governor emerges.
Besides, it is already happening. Kwara Southerners have already keyed in. You must have seen how they trooped out en masse to advocate a power shift to your region last week Friday. A lot of our people in Kwara Central are also with Kwara North and will ensure a Kwara Northerner emerge in 2027. Forget the nonsense KC for KC being paraded by those battling political survival. They’re mere noisemakers and online urchins of Dr Bukola Saraki. Like Saraki, they don’t matter. So, keep your eyes on the ball!
