A report reveals that the Federal Government spent N8.73 billion to improve power supply at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The Federal Government of Nigeria allocated N8.73 billion for airport power infrastructure in 2024, as reported by BudgIT.
This funding was primarily aimed at ensuring a reliable electricity supply for the new international terminal at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The report, referenced by OBASANJONEWS,
indicated that substantial payments were made to J. Marine Logistics Ltd for outsourced power services, including N5.67 billion for power supply from March to September 2023, N2.19 billion on May 9, 2024, for services covering late 2023, and an additional N874.42 million on the same day as part payment for that period.
This initiative was undertaken in response to ongoing issues with inconsistent power supply at the airport.
Aviation expert Olumide Odunayo commended the government’s actions but emphasized the necessity for a more sustainable energy solution, suggesting the development of alternative power sources such as solar or wind energy.
