Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested the Accountant General of Delta State, Mrs Joy Enwa, as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged misappropriation of N1.3 trillion in state funds linked to former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The investigation centres on the alleged diversion of the 13 per cent derivation fund intended for oil-rich states, which it is claimed was embezzled by Okowa during his time in office.
In November, the former governor himself was arrested and detained by the EFCC for his involvement in the diversion of these funds.
He was taken into custody at the Port Harcourt division of the anti-graft agency, where he faces accusations of using his gubernatorial position to amass assets worth N1.3 trillion, including shares in UTM Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Company and various other investments in the oil sector.
The inquiry into the alleged fund diversion is ongoing, with several individuals, including Mrs Joy Enwa and Ekeruche, the former Director of Finance and Administration and the Director of Administration at the Government House, already apprehended and detained for questioning.
