In a bold statement, an Ebonyi PDP stalwart calls for Atiku to abandon plans for 2027, focusing on the party’s future success.
The Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Comrade Richard Nwafor, has advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar against pursuing a presidential bid in 2027.
In a discussion with journalists in Abakaliki, Nwafor proposed that the PDP should allocate its presidential ticket to the southern region of Nigeria for the upcoming elections.
He reminded that Atiku had previously contested in the 2023 elections under the PDP and was unsuccessful, as well as in earlier elections where he selected Peter Obi as his running mate but faced a significant defeat.
Nwafor expressed confusion over Atiku’s recent aspirations for the 2027 election, highlighting the efforts made by southern PDP members in 2023 to encourage Atiku to allow a southern candidate to lead, which would promote equity and justice within the party.
He emphasized that Atiku should abandon his presidential ambitions and instead support a southern candidate, noting that his views are personal and do not reflect the official stance of his office.
Nwafor concluded by asserting the necessity for new leadership within the PDP.
