On Wednesday, over two billion Christians worldwide celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. From Nigeria across Africa to Europe, Asia, and the Americas, Christmas is marked with festivity by Christians more than two thousand years after Jesus was born in Bethlehem, just south of Jerusalem.
Christmas, now an annual tradition, is a time filled with love, hope, joy, unity, and generosity.
Pope Francis is scheduled to lead the Christmas Eve Mass at St. Peter’s and will give his traditional Urbi et Orbi blessing (to the city and the world) at noon on Wednesday, Christmas Day.
The elderly pontiff, aged 88 and recently battling a cold, was brought up to the grand bronze door in a wheelchair. He knocked on it before entering as the Vatican Basilica’s bells chimed in resonance.
