The “real cheeseburger,” a bun stuffed with 20 slices of American cheese and no meat, launched in Thailand. It quickly went viral, but many were left questioning whether it was a step too far.
The sandwich ultimately drew attention to concerns over excess sodium, saturated fat, and calories.
Though cheese is widely loved for its taste and nutritional benefits, such as protein and calcium, excessively processed cheese has been linked to weight gain and heart health risks. And fast food chains are notorious for packing their food with salt and sugar.
To this end, health experts warn that viral menu trends like the “real cheeseburger” often prioritize shock value over health. It may not contain beef, but that definitely doesn’t make it a healthy option.
