ASUU declares indefinite strike, disrupting academic activities in Nigerian universities over unresolved demands with the government.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Niger Delta University (NDU), owned by the Bayelsa State Government, has initiated an indefinite strike, attributing the action to the government’s failure to honor prior agreements with the union.
This decision was made public on Tuesday following a meeting at the union’s secretariat in Amassoma.
The strike is anticipated to significantly impact academic operations at the university, creating uncertainty for students and other stakeholders regarding the immediate academic landscape.
Although the specific grievances of the union have not been fully articulated, reports indicate that they are related to ongoing issues such as unpaid salaries, insufficient funding, and inadequate infrastructure, among other concerns.
