Adamawa State Government has resolved to identify and establish grazing reserves as a measure to bringing an end to farmers and herders clashes in the state.
This was disclosed the secretary to the state government, Auwal Tukur when he briefed newsmen at the government house shortly after an elaborate security meeting with service chiefs, traditional leaders and council chairmen, chaired by Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Auwal Tukur Said the meeting was centered around the farmers and herders more especially now that it is harvest period, noted that establishing the grazing routes will help to reduce the tension between farmers and herders in the state.
He noted that government have identified traditional rulers as an integral part of the society and has resolved to be organizing seminars and workshops in order to educate them and make them understand their roles in the society, as that can help in solving problems at the early stage.
The SSG explained that government has equally identified trans-boarder herders as major components of those issues , hence the need to catalog and register all herders grazing within the state.
He therefore urged communities to assist the government in achieving that, stressing that the governor has directed all traditional leaders to as a matter of urgency should commence meetings in order to address issues in their respective local government areas in order to identify where the problems are.
The SSG highlighted government’s commitment to increase investment in agriculture so as to produce more food and livestock using modern technologies in order to reduce this problems.
Auwal stated that during the meeting, the council has received report of Dr. Jamila’s committee on farmers and herders clash in the state.
