A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) known as Team New Nigeria (TNN), led by Modibbo Yakubun Farakwai, has announced plans to break away from the ruling party and establish a new political movement. Farakwai revealed the group’s intentions on December 2, 2024, during the inauguration of Kano State’s harmonization committee.
TNN aims to bring about a shift in Nigeria’s political culture, focusing on democracy and addressing widespread dissatisfaction with the current government. Farakwai emphasized that Nigerians are not only seeking a change in leadership but also a transformation in governance effectiveness and culture.
With over 26 million registered voters, TNN has launched a nationwide outreach campaign, developed party materials, and begun engaging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to formalize the registration process. The group’s mobilization efforts span all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and all local government areas. TNN plans to unveil its manifesto and policy agenda in the coming weeks, positioning itself as a political force to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
