……Distributes Relief to Victims
Governor Zulum assesses the destruction caused by flooding in Borno State and provides relief materials to affected residents, showcasing his commitment to disaster response.
On Sunday, Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum visited Ngala Local Government Area to evaluate the damage caused by flooding in the region.
Gamboru Ngala is a market town situated on the shores of Lake Chad, close to the border between Cameroon and Nigeria.
Zulum also distributed relief items to victims who had been isolated due to heavy rains and flooding for almost four months.
On Saturday, the governor visited Ngala, where he stayed overnight and expressed his sympathy to those affected. He promised that his administration would collaborate with the federal government to deliver necessary solutions to prevent future incidents.
Gamboru Ngala, the administrative center of Ngala Local Government, was isolated from the rest of the country for approximately four months due to flooding and heavy rainfall this year.
“We visited to assess the damage and explore ways to assist those affected. A significant portion of the town remains underwater. Nevertheless, I urge residents to refrain from constructing homes on waterways.”
The situation is extremely troubling, and both the federal and state governments are exploring ways to provide support. A critical issue is that access to the town has been cut off, severing its food supply. Therefore, during our visit, we will distribute food items donated by the federal government to aid those affected.
We will assess the situation to determine how we can tackle the flooding issues in this area. We plan to implement immediate measures and ensure that medium- and long-term solutions are put in place to prevent future incidents.
The governor was joined by Engr Bukar Talba, a member of the House of Representatives; Alh. Bukar Abatcha, who represents Ngala in the House of Assembly; and Sugun Mai Mele, the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirates Affairs.
Others include Bukar Mustapha Dalatu, a former member of the House of Assembly, and Dr. Mohammed Barkindo, the Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), along with other senior government officials and political party members.
