In a recent effort to enhance the country’s electoral processes, President Bola Tinubu has appointed Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State.
Ibiyemi, an experienced lawyer, is anticipated to contribute legal expertise and a dedication to transparent elections in this pivotal position.
The announcement was issued in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Monday night.
The statement indicated that if the Senate approves, Ibiyemi will succeed another lawyer, ‘Niyi Ijalaye, who passed away in August while serving as the resident electoral commissioner for Ogun State.
The statement also mentioned that Ibiyemi, 58, originally from Ilaje in Ondo State, currently serves as the Administrative Secretary of INEC in Lagos State.
She completed her studies at Obafemi Awolowo University in 1987 and was admitted to the bar in 1988.
She also attended Bingham University in Nasarawa State, where she earned a Master’s degree in Election Management.
President Tinubu additionally put forward the nomination of Abdulrazak Yusuf Tukur to serve as a National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission, representing the North West region.
Tukur, aged 59, holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bayero University. He also earned a postgraduate diploma in Economics from Bradford University in England and a Master of Arts degree from Leeds University, which is also located in England.
He started his career at INEC in 1999 as an assistant chief administrative officer and eventually advanced to the position of Director of Electoral Operations and Logistics, serving until December 2023.
Tukur will also undergo the Senate’s approval process.
