Finnish authorities detain Nigerian separatist Simon Ekpa. Explore the details of his arrest and ongoing investigations.”
Simon Ekpa, a Finnish-Nigerian separatist and self-declared Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, has been apprehended in Finland along with four others for suspected involvement in terrorism-related offenses.
A local report indicates that Ekpa was detained by the Pรคijรคt-Hรคme district court on charges of inciting public actions with terrorist intent.
His advocacy for Biafra’s independence from Nigeria has sparked significant controversy.
The Central Criminal Police in Finland confirmed the arrests, noting that the five individuals are under investigation for terrorism-related crimes.
The police specified that Ekpa is the primary suspect, facing allegations of inciting public actions with terrorist motives, while the others are accused of financing such activities.
The police further stated that claims will be presented in the Pรคijรคt-Hรคme district court on November 21.
The investigation suggests that Ekpa, a Finnish citizen of Nigerian descent born in the 1980s, has allegedly promoted violent actions against civilians and authorities in South-Eastern Nigeria through his social media platforms.
Additionally, the four other suspects are believed to have financially supported these activities, and all five were arrested earlier this week, with international cooperation involved in the preliminary investigation.
