Hon. Rita Odichi Orijifor, who represented the Ajeromi/Ifelodun Federal Constituency of Lagos State from 2015 to 2019, is at the center of a legal storm over allegations of presenting a fake WAEC certificate during her time in office. A Federal High Court in Abuja recently dismissed her attempt to halt an investigation by the Nigeria Police, mandating her to submit herself for interrogation.
This controversy began when a petitioner, Uche David Esomonu, accused Orijifor of using falsified academic credentials, a claim that led to a police summons. Instead of complying, Orijifor sought legal protection, arguing the investigation violated her rights. However, the court ruled against her, affirming the police’s authority to investigate such allegations under constitutional provisions.
Orijifor, a member of the PDP, has faced political setbacks, including losing the 2019 elections and her party’s primaries in 2023. Despite these challenges, the certificate forgery claims continue to cast a shadow over her political career.
