Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko warned South Korea against supplying weapons to Ukraine, stating that such a move would “fully destroy relations” between the two nations. He emphasized that if South Korean weapons were used against Russian citizens, it would lead to severe consequences, with Russia responding in any way it deemed necessary.
Rudenko also questioned how this would benefit South Korea’s security, suggesting that it would not strengthen the Republic of Korea but instead damage bilateral relations.
While South Korea has provided humanitarian and financial aid to Ukraine, it has refrained from supplying weapons for Ukraine’s defense.
However, President Yoon Suk Yeol recently stated that South Korea would not rule out offering weapons support to Ukraine, particularly in light of North Korea’s growing involvement with Russia.
Yoon expressed concerns over the North’s military involvement in Russia and its potential impact on South Korea’s security. In recent developments, North Korean troops have been deployed in Russia, participating in combat operations, raising alarm over Moscow’s growing ties with Pyongyang.
