Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, has advised Afenifere Chieftain Femi Okurounmu to refrain from engaging in discussions that could undermine his reputation as an elder statesman.
This statement came in response to Okurounmu’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s perceived inaction regarding the ongoing crisis in Rivers State, as well as his allegations that Wike is the primary instigator of the turmoil.
Olayinka expressed surprise that a former Senator like Okurounmu would ignore the significant disobedience to court rulings by Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, emphasizing the threats such actions pose to democracy and societal stability.
He further questioned Okurounmu’s claims about Wike’s influence over Fubara, urging him to reflect on his own contributions to Fubara’s governorship.
Olayinka highlighted the traditional role of elders in mediating conflicts rather than assigning blame from a distance, and he challenged Okurounmu to consider the facts surrounding the unrest, including the arson at the Rivers State House of Assembly.
