Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, announced that the House Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution has received amendment proposals in around 161 areas.
He made this statement during an interview with journalists following his presentation at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) meeting in Abuja, where he was joined by key officials of the House.
Kalu characterized the meeting as productive, emphasizing that collaboration with the governors is essential for the timely progress of the constitutional amendment process.
He mentioned plans to visit various states and geopolitical zones to gather public opinions on the constitutional themes under review.
Furthermore, Kalu indicated that the committee would provide a detailed breakdown of the proposed amendments in future discussions and requested that governors appoint a liaison officer to facilitate communication and expedite the amendment process.
