Prominent Islamic leader Makarfi has passed away in Kaduna, leaving a significant void in the religious community.
A notable Islamic leader in Nigeria and former public servant, Jafaru Makarfi, has passed away. Makarfi died on Saturday night in Kaduna at the age of 93, as confirmed by Suleman Abdulkadir on behalf of the family.
Abdulkadir, who holds the title of Garkuwan Zazzau, noted that Makarfi served as the Chairman of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) in Kaduna State and was a significant figure within the Nigerian Muslim community, having previously held the position of Commissioner in the now-defunct Kaduna State.
He was also a veteran of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), where he began his career in 1950 and enjoyed a distinguished tenure of over forty years, becoming the first Northerner to serve as District Superintendent in the Western District of the NRC.
The funeral prayer is scheduled for Sunday at 1:00 pm at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna. Makarfi is survived by six children, and condolences are extended to his family, friends, JNI, and the broader Muslim community.
