The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has strongly criticized the state’s APC-led government for its excessive spending on non-essential projects, especially amidst the growing poverty and economic challenges faced by the people of the state. The PDP, in a statement issued by media consultant and social media influencer, Mr. Nwoba Chika Nwoba, accused the state government of ignoring urgent needs in areas like education, while directing significant public funds towards events like the recent hosting of the wife of Nigeria’s president.
According to the PDP, while the hosting of the first lady is not the issue, the amount of public money spent on the event is concerning. The party expressed its frustration, pointing out that the state’s teachers are yet to receive their October salaries, even as the month of November draws to a close.
Nwoba emphasized that the state government’s actions, including the commissioning of an airport that had already been inaugurated two years ago, are an extravagant waste of resources. He called this move a theatrical effort aimed at diverting attention from the pressing needs of the people.
The PDP also expressed alarm at the government’s failure to address the immediate concerns of the state’s citizens, noting that despite the state’s fiscal abundance, the people continue to feel the absence of significant development. The party urged the government of Governor Nwifuru to refocus on addressing the critical needs of the populace instead of engaging in unnecessary expenditure.
