Labour Party dismisses rumors, clarifying that Ondo guber candidate Ebiseni has not been disqualified. Get the full story behind the claims and response.
Ahead of the gubernatorial election in Ondo State on Saturday, the Labour Party has called on Nigerians, especially voters, to ignore a court ruling that allegedly disqualifies its candidate, Olusola Ebiseni, from participating in the election.
The Abuja Division of the Appeal Court recently ruled against Ebiseni, with a unanimous decision from a three-member panel led by Justice Hamma Barka, stating that the Labour Party’s appeal regarding Ebiseni’s candidacy was granted.
This decision contradicts a prior ruling by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, which had instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Ebiseni and Ezekiel Awude as the party’s candidates for the upcoming election, affirming the validity of the second primary election that nominated them.
Justice Nwite had noted that Ebiseni fulfilled the necessary financial obligations for his nomination and that the party had compensated another candidate for his withdrawal.
Despite this, the appellate court’s recent ruling has overturned the earlier judgment, leading to claims from the Ondo Labour Party Chairperson that the issues had been resolved prior to the court’s decision.
