The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State raised concerns over the distribution of two result sheets to polling units instead of one.
The party also questioned the credibility of the local government election due to the late distribution of election materials. The PDP has requested an extension of voting hours, originally scheduled to end at 2 pm, due to the delays in material distribution.
Election officials were still collecting materials from the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) office in Abeokuta at 7:32 am, just before the 8 am start time. The delays in material distribution and the distribution of two result sheets have raised doubts about the election’s transparency and fairness.
PDP state agent Waliu Oladipupo expressed worries that the distribution irregularities could undermine the integrity of the election process. Oladipupo highlighted that the delays and issues with distribution could disenfranchise many voters across the state.
He questioned the credibility of the election, citing concerns over the late arrival of materials and the distribution of two result sheets. Oladipupo pointed out that voters traveling to remote areas like Ogun Waterside would struggle to reach polling stations on time, given the late distribution of materials.
The PDP agent emphasized that these shortcomings could severely impact the fairness and transparency of the local government election.
The PDP is requesting an extension of voting time to allow voters sufficient time to cast their ballots. The party has called for results to be declared at the polling units, ensuring transparency in the process.
The PDP wants the winning party to be announced at each level, from the ward collation center to the local government collation center. The party emphasizes the need for clear and timely declaration of results to uphold the fairness of the election.
The PDP aims to improve voter confidence by ensuring that the results are openly declared and that the process is not undermined by delays or irregularities.
