The Nigerian Immigration Service highlights a surge in irregular migration, calling for immediate measures to curb the trend and enhance border security.
The Controller of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Edo State, Martins Moye, has expressed concern regarding the rising influx of irregular migrants into Nigeria.
This concern was voiced during the 2024 Nigeria Immigration Service enlightenment campaign aimed at combating irregular migration, held in Benin, the capital of Edo State.
Moye emphasized the importance of raising public awareness to address this issue effectively.
David Amanahu, a facilitator from the NIS headquarters in Abuja, pointed out Edo State’s historical significance in the context of irregular migration and noted that recent initiatives by the Edo State Command have led to an improvement in the state’s national ranking concerning this issue.
He remarked that Edo State is no longer the leading state for irregular migration, attributing this positive change to the dedicated efforts of the local team.
Amanahu, conveying a message from the Controller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, highlighted the NIS’s renewed commitment to border management and migration challenges.
