The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced that Friday, November 29, 2024, will be a work-free day in memory of the late First Lady, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno.
This declaration was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, on Wednesday, November 27.
The public holiday aims to provide an opportunity for residents to pay their final tributes during her funeral services, which will be held in her hometown of Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.
Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno passed away on September 26, 2024, at the age of 57 after a brief illness.
She was well-regarded for her humanitarian contributions through her initiative, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), which sought to tackle societal issues and support the underprivileged.
In his statement, Prince Uwah emphasized that the decision for a work-free day was made in consultation with the bereaved family to allow the community to honor her memory during the obsequies.
