Nigeria has announced a 32-man roster for the second phase of training ahead of the CHAN qualifiers against Ghana in December.
The roster includes notable players such as Kayode Bankole from Remo Stars, Suur Kumaga of Lobi Stars, and experienced winger Bernard Ovoke. Players from various Nigerian clubs are represented, including Rivers United’s Ubong Friday and Kano Pillars trio Abiam Nelson, Aminu Adams, and Sudais Alibaba.
The team will be prepared by coaches Fidelis Ikechukwu and Daniel Amokachi, as Augustine Eguaveon is on an overseas assignment. All invited players are expected to report to camp promptly for intensive preparations.
The Nigerian CHAN team began their training camp last Wednesday.
The players were released the day after camp started to return to their clubs. The early release allowed players to participate in Nigeria Premier Football League matches over the weekend.
Despite the brief initial camp, the team is expected to regroup for further preparations. The camp is part of Nigeria’s preparation for the upcoming CHAN qualifiers against Ghana in December.
The players displayed impressive skills during a two-day training session. Super Eagles interim coach Augustine Eguavoen praised their performance.
Eguavoen highlighted the players’ strong technical abilities. The assessment was based on only two training sessions. Eguavoen’s comments suggest a promising outlook for the team.
Coach Eguavoen emphasized the need to unite players from different clubs into a cohesive team.
Ghana will host Nigeria for the first leg of the CHAN qualifier between December 20-22, 2024. The second leg will take place in Nigeria one week after the first.
The aggregate winner of the two legs will secure a spot in the 2025 CHAN tournament. The 2025 CHAN will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
