Last Thursday, Williams learned she would spend the rest of her life in prison without parole plus 35 years, according to court documents from the Fulton County Superior Court.
Court records show Williams was found guilty on all charges, including murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, cruelty to children in the first degree, concealing the death of another, cruelty to children in the second degree and false statements.
The arrest warrant for Williams said that in 2017, she placed 1-year-old Ja’Karter Penn and 2-year-old Ke’Yaunte Penn inside an oven and turned it on.
After committing the murders, Williams called the boys’ father through video chat. The father of the boys, Jameel Penn, previously told WSB-TV, “It was like a real horror movie. It was Friday the 13th.”
He added, “When I saw my kid, how I saw my kid, that’s when I knew what was going on.”
Penn also spoke with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution at the time, saying, “After I seen what I seen, you know I called the police.”
According to the arrest warrant, the crimes happened between midnight Oct. 12 and 11 p.m. Oct. 13 — a span of nearly two days.
Authorities said that Williams called police on that Friday and said her children were dead.
Police who responded to the scene found the boys, who were identified as Ja’Karter Penn, 1, and Ke’Yaunte Penn, 2, with burn marks, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
However, investigators later learned the boys were not left with a caregiver and that Williams, who called 911 that day, had put her two sons in the oven either early that morning or the night before, WSB-TV reports, citing prosecutors.
The autopsy reports cited by WKRC state the boys died after a “prolonged exposure to heat” from an oven that was tipped over. The reports added that it would “require an extensive amount of time to get to this degree,” per the outlet.
Inside the apartment at the time of their deaths was 3-year-old brother Jameel Penn, Jr., who was unharmed.
Jameel Penn, Jr. lived with his father after the death of his siblings.
Williams has remained at the Fulton County Jail since 2017 and was previously indicted on a list of charges, including murder for the death of the two boys.
The court case, though, has been delayed several times due to the pandemic, and a judge placed a judicial hold on the case while mental health evaluations were carried out for Williams.
