In 1972, famous drummer Ginger Baker took a photo with Taiwo and Kehinde Lijadu at London’s airport. The twin sisters, 21, were heading to the US after performing at the Munich Jazz Festival.
Born in Nigeria, they started singing together at 10, mixing African rhythms with Western music. They were related to Afrobeat star Fela Kuti.
Their unique sound made them famous in Africa. They released several albums and worked with King Sunny Adé.
After Kehinde’s injury, they focused on spirituality and herbal medicine. Sadly, Kehinde passed away in 2019.
The Lijadu Sisters’ story inspires people with their talent, resilience, and cultural pride.
