NURTW takes action against MC Oluomo, terminating his membership due to unresolved disciplinary disputes from 2022.
Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has had his membership in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) formally canceled.
On Tuesday, November 18, Olalekan Folorunsho, commonly known as Lekan Salami, the union’s Southwest Zonal Chairman, confirmed this.
Salami revealed that MC Oluomo publicly tore his union identity card in protest in 2022, resulting in the forfeiture of his membership. The incident happened after the national leadership of the NURTW launched a disciplinary inquiry.
“Our Constitution is unambiguous. A formal application must be submitted to the national leadership by a returning member, and it must be approved.
Before running for any office, such a person must also work at the grassroots level for two years, according to Salami.
Due to his failure to meet these qualifications, the former chairman of Lagos State is no longer qualified to serve in any capacity within the union.
Salami also took use of the occasion to reiterate the authority of Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa, whose presidency was just upheld by an Appeal Court decision.
He condemned acts of disruption within the union and urged the government to acknowledge Baruwa’s authority.
“Baruwa continues to lead the NURTW in Osun State. He emphasized, “MC Oluomo should be called to order because gangsterism has no place in our union.”
The continuing internal power struggle inside the NURTW has taken a new turn with this event.
Although there are groups opposing Baruwa’s presidency, the court decision provides a way to settle the conflicts and bring stability back to the union as a whole.
