Ruben Amorim has been appointed as the new manager of Manchester United, replacing Erik ten Hag, who was recently dismissed. The 39-year-old Portuguese coach, known for winning two Primeira Liga titles with Sporting Lisbon, will officially join the club on November 11, 2024, with a contract running until 2027.
United described Amorim as “one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football.” Until his arrival, Ruud van Nistelrooy will manage the team, with Amorim’s first match scheduled against Ipswich on November 24.
Following a disappointing start to the season that left United in 14th place in the Premier League, the decision to part ways with Ten Hag was made after a 2-1 loss to West Ham. Amorim’s appointment follows United’s willingness to meet his β¬10 million release clause, and he has expressed caution about discussing the transition during a press conference.
Despite a recent victory over Leicester in the League Cup, United’s performance had seen them secure only one win in their last eight matches. Van Nistelrooy remains committed to improving the team’s fortunes as they prepare for a crucial game against Chelsea.
